Search Visibility (SEO)
The SEO tab decides whether search engines such as Google and Bing may list your instance's home screen, and what they show when they do.
Open My Instance (Solo) or Instances, then the instance, then SEO. The tab appears once the instance has been saved. Organization admins can change these settings. Save from the button in the header.
What can appear in search results
Only the home screen, the page visitors see at your instance's address before they log in, can be indexed. Every other page on the address stays hidden from search engines whatever this tab says. That includes login, the registration workflow, the patient portal, and every page staff use after signing in.
If the home screen is set to No landing page on the Branding tab, there is no public page to index. The SEO tab then shows No public page to index, the fields are hidden, and the address is always hidden from search engines. See Instance Configuration.
Allow search indexing
Allow search indexing is off by default, including for instances created before this setting existed.
- Off: search engines are asked not to index the home screen or follow its links. CareLaunch adds a
noindex, nofollowrobots tag to the page and anX-Robots-Tagheader to the response. This suits invitation-only, private, or B2B workflows. - On: search engines may index the home screen and show it in results, using the title and description below.
Turning indexing on doesn't make a page appear right away. Search engines pick up the change the next time they crawl your address, which can take days or longer. Turning it off again removes the page from results once they recrawl it.
Page Title
The title shown as the headline of the search result and on the browser tab of the home screen.
- If you leave it blank, the patient-facing name is used, then the internal name.
- 55 to 60 characters is ideal. The field shows a counter. Longer titles still save, but search engines usually shorten them.
Meta Description
The short summary shown under the title in search results.
- If you leave it blank, the template microsite's headline is used when there is one. Otherwise no description is added, and search engines pick text from the page.
- Up to 160 characters is ideal. The field shows a counter. Longer descriptions still save, but search engines usually shorten them.
- Search engines may choose their own snippet instead of your description.
Canonical URL (optional)
Set this when the same home screen can be reached at more than one web address. It tells search engines which address you want listed, so the others aren't treated as duplicates.
- Enter a full address starting with
https://, for examplehttps://www.yourclinic.com/. - An address that isn't a full
http://orhttps://web address is ignored, and no canonical link is added. - The canonical link is added to the home screen only.
- Leave it blank if your instance has one address.
Custom pages
If the home screen uses a Custom page built in the Landing Page Designer, these settings still apply. The title, description, canonical URL, and indexing choice are added to the page by CareLaunch, not by the designer.
AI crawlers
Every instance address tells AI and LLM crawlers (for example GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended) not to crawl it. This doesn't change with Allow search indexing.
