FTP Administration - Enterprise Only

The FTP feature allows you to securely import data files from clients or stakeholders by setting up dedicated FTP users and groups. This helps streamline the process of receiving and processing large volumes of files while ensuring that access to specific directories and resources is tightly controlled.

FTP User Creation and Management

Users can be provisioned with password or public key authentication. For enhanced security, public keys are recommended. Each FTP user is assigned to a group, which controls their access to specific directories. This structure helps segregate client data, ensuring that users can only view and upload files to their assigned directories.

FTP Groups

Groups act as isolated directories that restrict user access to specific folders, ensuring data security. This is particularly useful when managing multiple clients or stakeholders, as you can assign each client their own group to keep their data separate. If multiple users need access to the same folder, they can be added to a shared group.

To set up and manage groups, collaboration with support may be required. Groups define which folders and files are accessible to users, ensuring secure and isolated data imports.

FTP Rules and File Processing

The Rule Editor allows administrators to define how incoming files are processed through the data import feature. The rule editor includes two key components:

  • Patterns and Actions:

    • Define specific patterns that trigger actions on incoming files. These patterns help filter files based on names, formats, or any custom logic. Once a pattern is detected, an associated action can be automatically executed (e.g., import the file, apply transformations).
    • Actions may include automatic data imports or other processing tasks.
  • Overrides:

    • Allows administrators to add custom column headers and corresponding values. Each row of the incoming file will have the specified header with the pre-set value, enabling the flexibility to mark certain data (e.g., hard coding an Instance ID, defaulting fields, or marking patients for specific campaigns).
    • This feature is particularly useful for scenarios where uniform data modification is required across all records in a file.

These features empower users to automate and customize file imports and ensure consistency in the data being processed.
